MY STORY
AJ the Sensory Bat
Once upon a time, in Limited Edition Land, there was a bat named AJ. AJ was a curious and friendly bat who loved exploring the dark caves of Limited Edition Land with her friends. However, AJ had a unique challenge – she had Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD).
Sensory Processing Disorder meant that AJ’s brain had trouble processing information from her senses like sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch. Sometimes, things that seemed normal to others, like a loud noise or a scratchy texture, could be overwhelming and uncomfortable for AJ.
One day, while flying through the forest, AJ’s friends noticed that she was having a hard time. The leaves rustling in the wind sounded too loud, and the branches brushing against her wings felt too rough. Concerned, her friends decided to talk to her about it.
“AJ, is everything okay?” asked one of her friends, a wise old owl named Oliver.
“I’m just feeling a bit overwhelmed today,” AJ replied. “Everything seems too loud and too bright.”
Oliver nodded understandingly. “It sounds like your Sensory Processing Disorder is acting up. That means your brain is having trouble processing all the sensory information around you.”
AJ’s friends wanted to help her feel better, so they decided to learn more about Sensory Processing Disorder. They discovered that SPD can make people feel sensitive to lights, sounds, textures, and smells. It can also make it hard to focus and can cause anxiety.
To help AJ, her friends learned to create a calm and soothing environment for her. They dimmed the lights in their cave, played soft music, and gave her a cozy blanket to snuggle in. They also learned that there are different ways to treat SPD, like occupational therapy, which can help people learn to manage their sensory challenges.
As AJ’s friends supported her, they realized that anyone can have Sensory Processing Disorder. It can happen because of differences in how the brain processes information. Some people are born with it, while others develop it later in life.
Through understanding and support, AJ learned to manage her Sensory Processing Disorder. She continued to explore the caves of Limited Edition Land with her friends, knowing that they would always be there for her, no matter what challenges she faced.
And so, AJ’s story teaches us that it’s okay to be different, and with understanding and support, we can overcome any challenge that comes our way.
