AJ the Not So Ordinary Bat

In the magical world of Limited Edition Land, there was a little bat named AJ. AJ was no ordinary bat; she had Sensory Processing Disorder, which meant that sometimes the world felt too loud, too bright, or too overwhelming for her. This made everyday activities like flying and socializing with other bats a bit challenging for her.

One day, while AJ was feeling particularly overwhelmed, she decided to talk to her friend, a wise old owl named Oliver, who lived in the tallest tree in the land. Oliver was known for his wisdom and kindness, so AJ thought he might be able to help her feel better.

“Hello, AJ,” hooted Oliver as AJ approached his tree. “What brings you here today?”

AJ shuffled her wings nervously. “Well, Oliver, I’ve been feeling really overwhelmed lately. Everything feels too loud and too bright, and I don’t know how to make it stop.”

Oliver nodded understandingly. “I see. It sounds like you’re experiencing a sensory overload. But don’t worry, AJ, there are ways to help you feel better. One thing you can do is practice some affirmations to calm your mind.”

“Affirmations? What are those?” asked AJ, tilting her head curiously.

“Affirmations are positive statements that you can repeat to yourself to help you feel better,” explained Oliver. “They can remind you that everything will be okay and that you are strong and capable.”

AJ thought this sounded like a great idea. She asked Oliver to teach her some affirmations, and together, they came up with ten affirmations for AJ to practice when she was feeling overwhelmed:

  1. “I am safe, and this feeling will pass.”
  2. “I can handle this, one step at a time.”
  3. “I am strong and capable.”
  4. “I deserve to feel calm and peaceful.”
  5. “I am in control of my thoughts and feelings.”
  6. “I can take a break and come back to this later.”
  7. “I am loved and supported.”
  8. “I am unique and valuable.”
  9. “I trust myself to make the right decisions.”
  10. “I am grateful for the good things in my life.”

AJ practiced these affirmations every day, and soon she started to feel more confident and less overwhelmed. She learned that it was okay to take breaks when she needed them and that asking for help was a sign of strength, not weakness.

From then on, whenever AJ felt overwhelmed, she would close her eyes, take a deep breath, and repeat her affirmations to herself. And each time, she would feel a little lighter, a little calmer, and a little more.
